| About sMMS |
sMMS is a program designed to simplify the sending, receiving, and organizing of picture messages on Sprint Windows Mobile based Pocket PC and Smartphone devices. It provides these devices the ability to use the Sprint Picture Mail(tm) service just as if it were any other Sprint device. sMMS does not use any hacks or workarounds that Sprint does not allow. sMMS also provides a convenient way to organize media that is sent and received by using a tabbed messages area which includes sent, received, and saved tabs. These folders are stored on the Sprint Picture Mail(tm) website and synchronized to your phone locally. sMMS is still in beta and many new features are planned for the future. All of the ideas for new features and changes to sMMS are provided by sMMS users, and any input is welcomed and appreciated.
sMMS was designed and programmed by SomeGuyMMS. SomeGuyMMS, or as some people like to call him, THE Man!, works very hard on this project in his free time. Any contributions you make via donations are 100% reinvested in the project. SomeGuyMMS is not inerested in turning a profit with this application. SomeGuyMMS loves to hear feedback about his application and is always open to new ideas, so if you have an idea speak up on the forums. Without this feedback, the project could fail. |
| Why do I need to use sMMS to send MMS messages? |
| A few months ago, Sprint blocked MMS sending using a PDA/PPC device. Sprint recommended that PDA users use the Sprint Picture Mail website. Great, for whatever reason they blocked MMS, they atleast offered a workaround/solution. sMMS helps users upload and send photos using their Picture Mail website. |
| Why can't you make sMMS send videos, my friend has Picture Mail on her phone and can send video? |
| sMMS uses the Picture Mail website not the Picture Mail service offered to "Normal" cell phone users. The way sMMS is built, it can not do anything that the Picture Mail website
does not do. And the Picture Mail website does not let you upload videos. You can receive video, just can't upload or send them. |
| So this actually uses Sprint's picture mail system/servers? How did you get around Sprint's block? |
| Yes, this program uses Sprint's actual picture mail website to send your pictures. No I didn't find any special port or hack anything. sMMS is basically a browser that formats the Picture Mail website. To help send messages easier. sMMS is not a replacement for Picture Mail but you can use it along side of the Picture Mail website. Also it is sent from your, Picture Mail account, your number is attached just like if you used any other Browser. I imagine that it works that same as those Usage Today plugins. |
| I sent a message to a friend on Verizon and he has not got it yet, what is wrong? |
| There is an issue between Sprint and Verizon when attempting to send pictures that are too large. This seems to happen when sending images 700Kb or higher. Reduce the image size
and send again. This issue should be resolved in v0.4.2 |
| How do I use the contacts list to populate the TO field? |
| Click the To: link or click the center DPAD button while your cursor is in the TO field. |
| When sending a message I get an "Out of Memory" Error. I have a super phone it should be able to handle any application. |
| Well the issue is with the .NET Framework and the limited amount of memory on phones. To Modify or even get information from an image in .NET you have to convert the image to RAW uncompressed data, JPEGs are highly compressed. ex. a 2MB JPEG 2300 x 2500 uncompressed will be 23MB (2300x2500x32 = 23MB). Most if not all phones will choke with that much memory allocated to an image. This issue should be resolved in v0.4.2 |
| My version I have installed says it has Expired? |
| This is no longer an issue as of v0.6.2. Update to the newest version to remove the expiration. |
| Do I have to Donate? Why should I donate? |

- First check your Sprint account to see if you have a picture mail access. (If you have power vision you should have it..)
- Next go to http://pictures.sprintpcs.com/ and click Login in the top right
- Put in your 10-digit phone number and select No send me a password
- You may be asked to confirm your phone number to send your picture mail password to you. Make sure its correct and continue
- You should get a text message with your password within a few minutes
- You can login to http://pictures.sprintpcs.com/ and change the password if you would like
- Open sMMS
- Select Settings
- Enter your 10-digit phone number in the phone number box
- Enter your Sprint Picture Mail(tm) password in the password box (the one you just got as a text message or what you changed it to on the website)
- Select Test Login
- You should receive a Success message
- Select Save
- Exit sMMS

If you get this error message after installing sMMS, you will need to install a 2.0 or higher version of the .NET CF Runtime.

MsgAmount (10) = Download the last X amount of messages
SavePictureLoc (\\My Documents\\My MMS\\) = Save location of Original Pictures that are downloaded
AutoClose (true) = Close Composer after successfully sending
AutoReset (true) = Clear the Composer Form after successfully sending
ShowSent (true) = Shows the sent Confirmation on successful sending
DefaultSkin (Default) = Default Theme name
DefaultSubject (You've got Picture Mail) = Default Subject to use when sending
DefaultMessage = Default Message to use when sending
DefaultRecipient = Default Recipient to use when sending

| (Re)Install sMMS for Existing Users |
- Open Internet Explorer on your phone and point it to: http://smms.vision5.com/updates/smmssetupfull.cab
- If the install does not run automatically after downloading from PIE, please browse to the location you saved the file to on your phone and run the install.
- Run sMMS
- Wait for the Donation screen to finish the countdown and press Continue
- Select Yes to the popup prompt asking if you would like to enter your information now.
- Enter your 10-digit phone number in the phone number box
- Enter your Sprint Picture Mail(tm) password in the password box
- Select Save
- Select Activate
- Go to Settings
- Select Menu then Advanced Settings
- Make sure there is a check in the box next to Enable Intercept
- Select Save
- Select Save
- Close sMMS.
- Open sMMS.
- Close sMMS.
Steps 5-8 are only required if you wish to have SMS Intercept enabled. If you do, please do not skip steps 7 and 8. This is where sMMS enters the appropriate information into the registry and to pOutlook. |
